Brittany Spears was asked, in an interview, if she thought she was a great singer. She responded "I'm alright!" Later, expressing that she realizes there are a lot of people with voices that "surpass" hers. That response resonates with me because that is how I feel about photography.

In life, there will always be someone that is considered a "better singer." But that doesn't matter. Look at what she did with an "alright" voice. The truth is, when you start to compare all joy is gone. All artistic value is faded. Being yourself in a world that is constantly full of judgement makes it hard.

Think of social media, what is the first thing you look at? Is it the amount of likes, followers or friends someone has? Close your eyes, what do you see? NOTHING? Or is it you? You and your soul, your thoughts, your visions? No one else can see this. Not your friends or followers, no matter how you try to express yourself, you are one of a kind. Be the person you want to be, not what others deem appropriate. Everyone has different styles and tastes. Some may like my work, others may not. What is important, is that I do. I express myself. Giving me the opportunity to understand the same for others.
